I know what you’re thinking; I’ve done it again. I can’t seem to stay away from loud pieces. I picked this blazer styled jacket up from a small thrift store a few weekends ago and I do not have one single regret.
For the first look, think spring day with a little retro twist. Number one thing you’ll need; a dated statement jacket you can find at your local thrift store. The goal is to make the main focus the jacket and try not to conflict with it. Create the illusion of bringing the jacket forward by making it the first thing that catches people’s eye. This will be achieved by pairing the jacket with other pieces that are neutral basics. ( not complimenting colors because complementary colors will only tone down the loudness of the jacket, when we want it stand out. ) Colors to stick with are beige, white, grey and black. Since it is day time, either A.) Keep it light on the black, or B.) Tone down the black by wearing a well balanced portion of other nuetrals. Since the shape of the jacket was slightly masculine, I paired it with my trustee wedges along with my classic black circle skirt to keep the look light and flirty.
If the other style was a bit too girly for you, don’t worry, there’s more.
This style is not only night time appropriate but also for any girl who likes to add a little edge. I decided to play with the solid side of the jacket. Since it is night, there is no problem in incorporating more black to the look. Wear jeans with slits and holes to add the right amount of edge. You can go even further with that vibe and chuck on some lace up combat boots. Something else that I like about this jacket is that even though it’s the standard shape of a formal blazer, the material is lightweight and made from a sport like material . I decided to play off that sporty vibe and add my sheer jersey styled top by Foreign Exchange. Even if the other items added to the look seem a little harsh, the jacket will give some light hearted personality with the slight peaks of pattern on the collar from the reverse side. It adds a little humor to the outfit.
Don’t be scared to be a little daring and add a statement to your closet.
